“I’ve always thought of poisonous plants as the punk rockers of the botanical world. They exist on the fringe. They refuse domestication. They are beautiful without asking permission. Dangerous without apology. They remind us that nature is not here to comfort us. Thornapple—Datura—may be the greatest rebel among them. For centuries this moonlit bloom has occupied the threshold between medicine and poison, beauty and danger, dream and delirium. Its flowers unfurl under moonlight like ivory trumpets announcing some forbidden ceremony. Its spiky armored fruits resemble medieval weapons. Its scent is intoxicating. Its history is soaked in magic, medicine, madness, and myth." -Douglas Little

Thornapple Eau de Parfum does not contain any poison and is not a literal portrait of Datura. This fragrance is an interpretation of the myths, the strange fascination, and obsessions this plant inspires. It explores the dark earth beneath its roots, the narcotic sweetness of its blooms, the forbidden temptation of its fruit, and the delirious dreamscape that has surrounded it for centuries.
A fragrance of dangerous beauty, Thornapple imagines an enchanted fruit gathered beneath a waning moon, where verdant leaves, saffron, and an uncanny apple accord surrender to black tea, dark plum, frankincense, oakmoss, and musk. It’s a fragrance that lingers like the memory of a beautiful delirium. A dream remembered at dawn.
TOP NOTES
(THE TEMPTATION)
-
GREEN LEAVES: To capture the living plant in the garden. Fresh, bitter, and verdant.
-
CARDAMOM: Chosen for its cool aromatic brightness. A note that feels both inviting and slightly uncanny.
-
SAFFRON: To introduce tension. Its leathery warmth creates a sense of danger beneath the fragrance’s initial beauty.
-
APPLE ACCORD: An imagined fruit inspired by thornapple’s seductive mythology. Crisp, luminous, and impossible to resist.
HEART NOTES
(THE DELIRIUM)
-
BLACK TEA: Introduces depth and ambiguity. Earthy tannins and shadows begin to obscure the clarity of the opening.
-
DARK PLUM: Ripe to the point of excess. Suggesting temptation, indulgence, and the beginning of surrender.
-
LABDANUM: Chosen for its ancient, ritualistic character. Dark, resinous, and reminiscent of old books, incense smoke, and forgotten ceremonies.
-
FRANKINCENSE: To evoke the sacred and the mystical. A bridge between devotion and obsession.
BASE NOTES
(THE SPELL)
-
OAKMOSS & VETIVER: To explore the dark earth beneath the plant's roots.
-
AMBERED WOODS: To create warmth and permanence. The lingering memory of the encounter.
-
SKIN MUSK: The final transformation. The fragrance settles into something deeply personal, as though the spell now belongs to the wearer.
Most flowers belong to the day. Thornapple belongs to the moon. As twilight settles across fields and forgotten roadsides, tightly furled buds begin to unfurl. Slowly, almost theatrically, enormous white blossoms twist open like parchment scrolls. Within minutes, a flower can transform from a green spindle into a luminous trumpet nearly the size of a human hand. By moonlight they seem almost supernatural.
The name thornapple comes from the Datura plant’s remarkable fruit, an egg-sized capsule armored with sharp spines. These strange seed pods look less like fruit than artifacts recovered from a witch’s cabinet or an alchemist’s laboratory.
For centuries, this mysterious plant has occupied a privileged position in the folklore of witchcraft. It appears repeatedly in medieval accounts of herbal preparations allegedly used by witches, shamans, and cunning folk throughout Europe. It has long been investigated by healers, physicians, shamans, occultists, and explorers. Its effects have been described with a mixture of fascination and horror. Those who encountered these plants reported vivid visions, sensations of flight, conversations with spirits, encounters with animals that spoke, journeys to impossible places, and dreams indistinguishable from waking life.
Unlike many psychoactive plants, datura does not create colorful fantasy. It creates conviction. Dream becomes reality. Reality becomes dream. This quality has made the plant both revered and feared. It remains one of the botanical world’s great wild cards. A reminder that not every mystery is meant to be mastered. Some are simply meant to be respected.
Perhaps the true power of thornapple lies not in chemistry, folklore, or history. Perhaps its power lies in what it represents.
The untamed.
The beautiful unknown.
In an age where nearly everything can be explained, mapped, cataloged, and understood, thornapple remains gloriously elusive. Its flowers still open beneath the moon. Its stories still circulate through occult books and whispered conversations. Its enchanted fruits still resemble artifacts from another world. And its presence still inspires awe.
This fragrance is an homage to that feeling.
